The Push to Rehab

A lot of people go to rehab every year, whether they really want to or not.  Truth be known, rehab is not the kind of place where anyone really wants to go, whether they are a consenting participant in their treatment process or not.  After all, it is not a pleasant place to be, both in its reduction of your personal freedoms, and in how you typically feel when you get there (and during the bulk of your stay in there).  So while there are bound to be many different variables that begin to align against using drugs, there has got to be a mightily powerful push, that finally settles the matter of whether you are going to rehab or not with a yes.  But of course, that push could be a lot of different possible things.

Truth be known, there are different reasons for every addicted individual to finally get this rather extreme form of help.  First off, they are admitting, by default, that they are not able to beat this thing on their own.  So it has got to be something which comes out of a situation where they understand that their life is not under their own control any longer.  And while a lot of people find it horrifying to admit that to themselves, sometimes you just have to admit defeat and move on from there.

Often enough, it is not even about the addicted individual themselves.  Sometimes a person needs to figure out that they have hurt, and are continuing to hurt, all of the people around them who really care about them.  Maybe they find themselves high off of their gourd, and driving their child around while they can barely keep the car going in the right direction.  Maybe they have finally missed enough important moments in their children’s lives, and decide that enough is enough.  Or maybe they finally lose their spouse.  It usually takes a lot of losses.
