When we think drugs, we normally think of marijuana and cocaine or others. Hard drugs are the thing that usually pops into the brain, especially when discussing the most harmful of substances. It is surprising then that some of the most addictive elements aren’t the ones we normally think of first.

•    Nicotine tops the list of the most addictive drugs. It’s very easy to get, because it’s legal and you only have to look like you’re 18 years old to get it. Despite the advertisements warning of the devastating effects, thousands of new smokers pick up the habit every day, and millions try desperately to quit this most addictive substance.

•    Heroin – Of all the hard drugs, and there are many, Heroin is probably the most dangerous and likely the most addictive. Heroin goes directly to the brain where it tells the user they are feeling the best they have ever felt, for about an hour. Once the euphoric high wears off, users may experience extreme withdrawal symptoms and a craving for their next hit of drugs.

•    Caffeine – What could possibly be wrong with caffeine, after all billions drink coffee and soda every day? That inherently might be the problem as many people feel like they can’t get through the day without their normal shot of caffeine. And it’s everywhere! Hard not to have chocolate, tea, coffee or a soft drink as you go through your day, yet caffeine is one of the most addictive drugs on the planet.
